Bairds Black Malt, also call “Black Patent” is used in small amounts for dark ales & lagers; and in larger quantities in porters and stouts. Black malt lends a very dry character when a lot is used, as in stouts and contributes a very dark color while not coloring the head very much.

Smoother than roasted barley giving full roasted flavour along with a slightly tart acridity, in small amounts this malt will give a reddish hue without becoming too intense.
