During my recent trip to England, I found this excellent IPA in Cornwall. Coming back home,  I just had to brew it myself. I found a recipe which hits it just right and now I want to share it with you.

This from St Austell Brewery, the makers of Proper Job:

A powerfully authentic IPA, Proper Job is brewed with a blend of American hops. It is a real treat of a beer with a growing reputation and is loved by beer enthusiasts far and wide. Perhaps the forerunner of all modern IPAs in the UK!

Chinook, Cascade, Willamette hops with Maris Otter malt.

*This kit uses a hop stand technique, so it’s a little on the advanced side to make. A hop stand is done after the boil is finished. The wort is chilled to 80℃, then the finish hops are added and sit for 20 minutes. They are then removed and the wort cooled down to pitching temperature.*

For yeast, we recommend either: London ESB, S-04, Nottingham

  1. Aeric

    Equipment: 3 gallon (11.36L) BIAB
    OG: 1.051 FG: 1.011
    ABV: 5.25%
    Average fermentation temp: 26.2C
    Yeast: Harvested Kveik Midtbust slurry

Very tasty. Tropical aroma, not so much in flavour. Not as aggressively bitter as West Coast IPAs. If I didn’t know its provenance, I would have said it was everything I’d look for in a Session IPA.

    Would definitely brew again.

Oops. Forgot to add the rating.

Proper job is proper good. Pretty easy too and tastes much better than I expected.
    I used Nottingham dry yeast.
    Great brew.
